The 2012 European Football Championship will be held in eight different cities, four in Poland and four in Ukraine.
Poznan, one of the four Polish cities selected, has developed a stadium measuring 205m x 187m, and is 58m high. The roof is a membrane, spread over the supporting structure. The stadium provides space for 45,830 fans and meets the ELITE class requirements specified by UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations.
Support structure
Two transverse lattice girders measuring 175m and 159.5m make up the supporting structure. The girders are supported by reinforced concrete columns at either end. Between these transverse girders are two longitudinal lattice girders, measuring 135m each.
Modern methods were applied to the structural analysis, the planning of the design and the generation of drawings. The analysis was performed on 3D models, especially the 28,172 partly bent bars and 16,593 complex nodes could not have been planned and designed without the use of a modern CAD solution.
Design planning and workshop drawings
bocad-3D was used for the steel construction, enabling the trouble-free creation of the finished 3D building. The programme generated workshop and erection drawings, and issued control data for the pipe-processing machines.
The opening ceremony of the stadium took place on 20 September 2010, with a concert by Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, which was attended by 30,000 spectators.
