YIT to build third phase of Innopoli 4 in Otaniemi

The building is expected to obtain LEED Gold certification as a result of its solar panel presence.

October 18 2023

Finnish construction company YIT and non-residential real estate developer Technopolis have entered an agreement to build a new research building in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland.

The state-owned VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland will be the tenant of this new building.

The contract is estimated to be worth €28m, with YIT to enter this agreement into its order bookings for this year's fourth quarter.

The expansion of the Innopoli 4 premises and its associated outdoor spaces are being carried out in a phased manner.

The new research building of the premises, which is part of the project's third phase, is to be completed in 2025. The first phase of the development was finished in 2020.

Spanning an area of approximately 7,900 gross square metres, the new structure will be connected to the existing property.

The building will comprise eight storeys and a lower research hall wing. It will include laboratories alongside specialised facilities such as radio-shielded premises, X-ray rooms, and cleanrooms.

The total leasable floor space of the property is measured at approximately 5,700m².

Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the property, with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold environmental certification expected to be obtained as a result.

YIT's construction work will commence in January next year.
