Winvic Construction has secured a contract to design and construct four Net Zero Carbon industrial warehouses at Atlantic Park in Bootle, Liverpool, UK.
The £35.8m ($45.27m) contract was awarded by Royal London Mutual Insurance Society.
The 41-week construction programme commenced with a ground-breaking ceremony.
The project will be located on a 52-acre site, previously home to the Rolls Royce Engineering Works Factory.
Under the contract, Winvic will first excavate the existing concrete slabs and prepare the ground for construction.
Winvic Industrial, Distribution and Logistics head Danny Nelson said: “We’re delighted to have impressed the Royal London team during the tender process and are ready to deliver four industrial facilities as Net Zero in construction for our new client.
“The site isn’t without its challenges due to its former use, but we have successfully remediated the ground on numerous projects and are confident to deliver the scheme by the end of 2024.”
The development will include four warehouses, ranging from 40,000ft² to 50,000ft² and 110,000ft² to 125,000ft², each featuring two-storey office spaces.
This construction scheme aligns with Royal London's Sustainability Strategy, aiming for Net Zero new builds by 2030.
Winvic will employ its Life Cycle Assessment process, in line with UKGBC and LETI standards, and third-party verification, to ensure Net Zero Carbon in Construction.
The design strategy incorporates 30% ground granulated blast-furnace slag replacing in situ concrete and 98% recycled scrap metal in reinforcement steel.
The project targets Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) Excellent and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A rating, with plans for a 10% biodiversity net gain and the installation of bird, bat, and insect nest boxes.
Additionally, the project includes the installation of new services, concrete service yards, an access road, and comprehensive landscaping.
Electric vehicle charging points will be available in 20% of the car parking spaces.
