Willmott Dixon has been selected through the UK Department for Education’s Construction Framework to construct a new £21.4m ($28.29m) school for West Northamptonshire Council.

Work on the facility, designed for special education needs and disabilities (SEND), is already underway in Tiffield, Northamptonshire. It is expected to be completed by summer 2025.

The project marks another addition to Willmott Dixon's portfolio of SEND schools.

The team for the project comprises Associated Architects, Hexa Consulting, JEH Planning, Ares Landscape Architects, and SVM Building Services Design.

The school will cater to pupils aged four to 18 years and will feature specialist teaching spaces, a soft playroom, sensory and rebound therapy rooms.

Other facilities planned for the project include a playground, various play areas, and car parking for staff and visitors.

The new educational facility will be situated on a 20,217m² site, previously owned by St Johns Centre.

The design aims to integrate the building with the surrounding rural landscape.

Prioritising sustainability, the three-storey building will use photovoltaics and air source heat pumps for power and heating.

The design also includes measures to enhance energy efficiency, such as improved air tightness and insulation, aligning with West Northamptonshire Council’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.

Willmott Dixon director Nick Heath said: “We have a strong record of delivering SEND schools - helping local authorities to meet the specialist educational requirements of local children and their families is something we take great pride in.

“Alongside specialist facilities, we are also helping customers to future-proof their schools by embedding sustainability. In the case of Tiffield School, this will also help to meet the council’s aspirations to be carbon neutral by 2030.”

This development follows Willmott Dixon's recent contract win to build 83 new homes in Doncaster.
