Willmott Dixon has secured a contract to construct a new £20m ($25.50m) mental health unit in Bristol, UK, aimed at serving individuals with learning disabilities or autism across the northern half of the south-west England region.

The facility is designed to accommodate up to ten patients and will cater to those whose needs exceed the capabilities of current hospital or community services.

The new unit, expected to be operational in 2025, is set to provide a localised care option, allowing patients to remain close to their homes and reducing the necessity for admissions to distant facilities.

Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board and Bath and North East Somerset Learning Disabilities and Autism executive lead Laura Ambler said: “When fully open in 2025, this site will be a fantastic addition to our existing mental health services, and I know from speaking with local people that having something like this based in our region will make an enormous difference to those who may have otherwise needed to have travelled significant distances for the right care and treatment.”

The Bristol-based unit will be managed by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership National Health Service Trust.

Willmott Dixon's procurement for this project was through the P23 framework.

The company is collaborating with Ryder Architecture, Edmond Shipway & Partners, and Hydrock Consultants for the project.

Willmott Dixon Operations director Robert Woolcock said: “We are delighted to be chosen to deliver the new mental health unit in Bristol through the P23 framework, and to be part of this new chapter for mental health services in the region.”

Last month, Willmott Dixon Interiors unveiled plans to commence enhancements and expansions of the accident and emergency facilities at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
