Willmott Dixon Interiors has announced a £4.4m ($5.62m) refurbishment project for historic buildings in the London Borough of Sutton in England, UK.

The project was tendered through the Procurement Hub and is partially funded by the UK government's Future High Streets Fund.

Procurement Hub client relationship manager Courtney Cole said: “The collaboration between Procurement Hub and Willmott Dixon Interiors has been instrumental in creating a harmonious dynamic from a procurement perspective, which will facilitate the smooth execution of the project.”

The refurbishment will focus on two buildings at 137-145 High Street, which previously housed Topshop and Vision Express stores covering an area of 20,000ft².

These will be transformed into modern retail and business spaces.

Willmott Dixon Interiors said it aims to preserve the historic character of the four-storey buildings while updating the interiors to meet contemporary business needs.

The company's plan includes the creation of large, open-plan floor spaces on the upper levels, with the basement and ground floors being redeveloped into separate commercial units.

Willmott Dixon Interiors director Simon Wilson said: “We are looking forward to supporting Sutton Council’s efforts to breathe new life into the high street. Our team has vast experience in transforming underused buildings for the benefit of local people and economies.

“This important refurbishment will not only deliver commercial spaces fit for the 21st century but has the potential to attract new occupiers that will encourage wider town centre regeneration too.”

Last month, Bruntwood SciTech selected Willmott Dixon as the main contractor for the Greenheys development at Manchester Science Park in the UK.
