Weill Cornell Medicine has revealed plans to expand its existing student residences with a new accommodation building near its campus in New York, US.
The new scheme will expand the scope of the institution’s Upper East Side campus.
Set to open in 2025, this new 16-storey, 173,000ft² residence hall involves a total investment of $260m.
The building is set to accommodate 272 students via 163 studio floor plans, seven one-bedroom apartments, and 51 two-bedroom flats, all of which will include a full kitchen.
The building will feature study areas, conference rooms, a health centre, yoga and music rooms, a student lounge, a multifunctional activity court, and a rooftop lounge with an attached terrace.
Weill Cornell president Martha E Pollack said: “This new residence will further enrich the experience of our students, providing them with the best possible living and learning environments as they pursue their educations at Weill Cornell Medicine.”
The collective supporters of Weill Cornell have invested roughly $122m in this development project.
Weill Cornell intends to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold accreditation for the expansion.
