City of Wolverhampton Council has finalised proposals for the £3.3m ($4.13m) transformation of Wednesfield High Street in the UK.

Funded by the UK government, the project is set to commence in early 2025 and is expected to be completed by March 2026.

The scheme aims to revitalise the area by enhancing the public realm and markets, ultimately supporting businesses and stimulating the local economy.

The transformative project will introduce improved paving, lighting, greening, and seating to increase the footfall of the high street.

Enhanced pedestrian crossings and improved access from Bentley Bridge and Lichfield Road are also part of the plan. These improvements are designed to support the site's established markets and attract further investment.

The detailed designs, which are the result of extensive public and trader consultations, include creating new events and activity spaces to further activate the potential of the high street.

The technical plans are currently being finalised, and a contractor will soon be appointed to undertake the work.

City of Wolverhampton Council cabinet member for Resident Services and councillor Bhupinder Gakhal said: “These works will bring the vibrancy back to Wednesfield High Street and surrounding areas, make it a more welcoming place for all and will boost the local economy.

“We had a great response to our public consultation and have used the feedback to inform a set of proposals that maximise the funding that has been made available to us.

“We are now in a position to secure a contractor to deliver this important regeneration scheme for Wednesfield.”
