Italian construction company Webuild Group's US subsidiary Lane has secured a $190m contract to construct a highway interchange between Interstate 4 (I-4) and State Road 33 (SR 33) in Polk County, Florida.

The Florida Department of Transportation awarded the contract to Lane, which will see the reconstruction of the existing interchange to support increased traffic and the integration of a future rail corridor.

The interchange redesign aims to enhance road safety through multilane ramps and roundabouts, reducing transit times at the crossing.

Additionally, the project includes the widening of a five-mile stretch of SR 33, improved signage and signalisation, intelligent transportation systems, and lighting.

Two new bridges will be constructed to facilitate animal crossings and improve overall safety.

This project reflects Lane's growing presence in North America, a strategic market that accounts for 13% of Webuild's total revenue as of 30 June 2024.

Webuild and Lane are engaged in multiple projects across the US, focusing on upgrading and extending road infrastructure.

In Florida, their efforts include the Turnpike Mainline Widening in Lake County, SR 417 in Seminole County, the I-275/SR 60 Westshore Interchange, and the I-4/I-275 Downtown Interchange projects in Tampa.

They are also enhancing connectivity between I-4 and SR 535 and Sand Lake Road in Orlando, and modernising the Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City.

Outside Florida, Webuild's initiatives extend to modernising a segment of I-64 in Virginia, the I-77 and I-40 interconnection in North Carolina, and replacing bridges over the Wateree River in Kershaw County, South Carolina.
