Lane, the American subsidiary of Webuild Group, has secured a $299m contract to undertake the expansion of the Seminole Expressway/state road (SR) 417 in Florida, US.
The project has been commissioned by Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, a division of the Florida Department of Transportation.
This move strengthens Webuild’s presence via Lane in the US, which is the company’s second-largest foreign market in terms of revenue after Australia.
The project involves the design and construction of expansion works for a six-mile section of the Seminole Expressway/SR 417 in Seminole County.
The roadway, which is part of Orlando's eastern ring road, will be expanded from four to eight lanes, extending from the Orange County border to north of SR 434.
It is aimed at improving traffic flow, enhancing road safety for vehicles, and serving as an evacuation route during emergencies.
Commencement of the works is set for late 2024, with completion anticipated by early 2029.
Additionally, Lane is finalising the Poinciana Parkway in Osceola County and is engaged in works on the Mainline Turnpike in Orlando.
Last month, Webuild and its joint venture partner Leonardo secured a contract for the preliminary feasibility study to construct the Hyper Transfer in Italy.
The Hyper Transfer is claimed to be the world's first operational prototype of a commercial hyperloop system.
