Walmart to build new milk processing facility in Georgia

The site will be built with an investment of $350m and is set to improve the retailer's transparency and supply chain.

October 12 2023

American retail corporation Walmart has announced plans to build a milk processing facility in Valdosta, Georgia, US.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the factory will be held later in 2023.

Walmart will own and operate the plant, which is expected to generate 400 jobs within the Valdosta community.

The facility will be built with an investment of $350m, reported Associated Press.

It will increase the company's ability to meet increased demand for quality milk while strengthening its supply chain and increasing transparency in sourcing.

The new plant will process and bottle a range of milk types, including 1% chocolate milk, full, gallon, half-gallon, 2% and 1%, for Walmart’s Great Value and Sam's Club's Member's Mark brands. The ingredients used for all these milk options will be obtained from local farmers.

Products from the facility will be distributed to 750 Walmart shops and Sam's Clubs throughout the southeast of the US.

In 2018, Walmart established its first milk processing plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, US.

Other investments by Walmart include a first case-ready beef facility in Thomasville, Georgia, and a second case-ready beef facility in Olathe, Kansas, US.
