Vita Group has submitted a planning application for a new student tower in the First Street district of Manchester, UK, in order to accommodate the city's growing student population, reported North West Place.

The proposal includes a mix of 34-storey and 12-storey buildings, offering a total of 861 rooms.

The development, situated on plot 9b at First Street, is designed by Tim Groom Architects and includes study and social spaces, as well as a gym.

The project has evolved since its initial unveiling last year, with an additional 119 beds incorporated into the design, increasing the total from 750 to 861 rooms.

This expansion reflects the increasing demand for purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) in Manchester, particularly in the First Street area, which is becoming one of the city's fastest-growing student hubs.

The new tower is positioned next to the GPA's 100,000ft² office and in close proximity to another Vita and Groom collaboration, House of Social.

The 14-storey House of Social, which is currently under construction, will provide 576 student beds and feature a food hall on the ground floor.

Vita Group's latest project at First Street is set to be its third PBSA development in the area, bringing the total number of Vita student beds to more than 1,700.

The project team for the Vita Group development includes Deloitte on planning and TPM Landscape as the landscape architect.

Other consultants involved are Abacus, ROC Consulting, Futureserv, Design Fire Consultants, Fisher Acoustics, SLR Consulting, Project Four Construction, Element Sustainability, and more.
