Vistry Group, a UK-based home builder, in partnership with Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, is set to expand the Sherford new town development near Plymouth, UK, with an additional 1,200 homes.

The joint venture between Vistry Group and Latimer marks a step in the creation of Sherford, located on the outskirts of Plymouth in the South Hams countryside, claimed to be one of the UK's most ambitious residential projects.

The partnership, which claims to use the Linden and Bovis brands, will ensure that half of the new homes will be designated for affordable housing or private rented sector (PRS) tenures, aligning with Vistry’s partner delivery model.

Upon completion, the town will feature 5,500 quality homes across three neighbourhoods, four schools, community facilities, and 84,000m² of space for employment and retail.

Additionally, residents will benefit from a 500-acre country park and better transport connections.

The construction of Sherford, which commenced in 2015, has received substantial support from the government, with Homes England investing £32m ($39.56m) in the development.

Vistry Cornwall South West managing director Peter Sadler said: “Sherford is a £1bn investment for Devon and a transformational new town. By partnering with Clarion again to deliver the remaining homes, we can provide more than 50% of them in affordable tenures, whilst using our housebuilding brands to market the open market homes - perfectly demonstrating the strengths of our Group.”

In October 2024, Vistry Group secured contracts for a 28.5-acre site on Barnards Drive in Sileby, where the company plans to construct 228 new family homes.
