Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne) has awarded a construction contract to VINCI Construction subsidiary Seymour Whyte for the Melbourne Airport development project in Australia.

This project follows on from the initial phase undertaken by Seymour Whyte in 2023.

The latest A$159m ($105.63m) contract involves the construction of a 550m bridge across 18 spans, designed to segregate public and commercial vehicle traffic.

It is intended to facilitate smoother connections from the Tullamarine Freeway to all airport terminals, as well as improve pedestrian safety.

Prioritising environmental sustainability, the project includes the reuse of all excavated fill at the airport's facility. The completion of the work is scheduled for 2026.

VINCI Construction Grands Projets has also won a contract to extend a water production plant in Cambodia.

Awarded by Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, the contract is worth €94m.

It will see the construction of a new raw water intake from the Mekong river and a treatment line capable of processing 195,000m³ of water daily.

The company aims to use concrete that emits 30% less carbon than the standard local options and will install a 3,500-panel solar array to meet 15% of the plant's energy needs.

Additionally, it will deploy Smart Users technology to help measure and manage water consumption at the site.

This project is a part of the Cambodian government's initiative to provide drinking water to the entire population by 2030.

Once completed in 2028, the facility will serve 750,000 residents north of Phnom Penh.

This project follows the completion of the plant's first two phases, which now supply water to approximately two million people.

Earlier this year, Orano awarded a consortium, consisting of two VINCI Construction subsidiaries, a civil engineering and structural work package for the Georges Besse II plant extension in France.
