Veidekke has secured a contract from the Swedish Transport Administration to build a section of the Västlänken railway project under Gothenburg, Sweden.

The contract, valued at approximately Skr430m ($40.64m) excluding VAT, involves the development of a double-track tunnel and two service tunnels spanning approximately 500m.

Veidekke Anläggning Väst regional manager Fredrik Indevall said: “We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract to build the Haga-Otterhällan section. This demonstrates our competitiveness in executing challenging and complex infrastructure projects.”

This construction effort is part of a broader initiative to improve rail capacity and efficiency in the region.

The assigned section, running between Rosenlundsplatsen and the Harbor Canal, will integrate with the existing underground infrastructure, including the Götatunnel, garages, and shelters.

The Västlänken project, a rail development spanning 8km, is designed to facilitate commuter and regional train traffic, with the majority of its route running through tunnels beneath central Gothenburg.

Meanwhile, the addition of three new stations is anticipated to expand the travel base.

Work is set to commence immediately, with completion expected in early 2029.

This contract will be reflected in Veidekke's order backlog for the third quarter of 2024.

The announcement follows Veidekke's selection by Fredensborg Bolig for a residential project in Oslo, Norway, earlier this month.

Valued at Nkr460m excluding VAT, this undertaking will see the creation of 149 apartments across four buildings, complete with an underground storage and parking facility.
