Construction and civil engineering company Veidekke and SR Energy have commenced construction of the Vindpark Horshaga project in Uppvidinge, Sweden.

This follows the completion of the design phase of the project.

Vindpark Horshaga will consist of three project areas, Horshaga, Älmedal, and Rosenholm. Together, these areas will house 25 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 147MW.

The estimated production phase value of this collaborative design-and-build contract is Skr190m ($18.79m). It will be entered into Veidekke's order bookings for the fourth quarter of this year.

Veidekke Infrastructure Sweden project manager Leif Adamsson said: “We are excited to begin construction. Together, our collaborative work methods and joint project organisation provide the confidence that is essential for complex projects like this to succeed.”

The scope of Veidekke's works includes the development of access roads, internal power grids, crane sites, and foundations for the wind turbines.

Preliminary activities such as marking conservation-worthy assets will commence early next year.

It will be followed by the clearing of land for roads and crane sites. The delivery and installation of the wind turbines is set for early 2025, with contribution to the local power grid by the end of that year.

SR Energy CEO Peter Zachrisson said: “The Horshaga wind farm will give southern Sweden a welcome addition of renewable energy, enabling regional development and electrification of industry.”

The project marks SR Energy's second wind farm development in the Uppvidinge municipality.

Uppvidinge is part of Sweden's electricity 'region 4, 'which has the largest shortfall of locally produced electricity compared to consumption in Europe.
