Veidekke’s subsidiary Grande Entreprenør has finalised a design-and-build contract with Verdal municipality to build a new Stiklestad school in Norway. 

It is valued at approximately Nkr200m ($18.84m), excluding VAT.

The project, awarded to Grande Entreprenør after winning a tender competition before mid-2023, faced delays due to appeals processed by the public complaints body KOFA. 

In February this year, a contract was drafted for the interaction phase, followed by progress between Verdal municipality, user groups, and Grande towards finalising the construction contract. 

Grande Entreprenør general manager Morten Hynne said: “The interaction process has meant that the municipality will have a better school than what was in the original plans.  

“Together, we have worked a great deal on raising the quality of the areas and an outdoor area will be established that would cause most other schools to envy the children in Stiklestad school district. And all of this is within the current budget.” 

Hynne further states that detailed project design will now commence alongside subcontractor contracting. 

The new school, situated at the former plant nursery in Stiklestad, will span approximately 4,800m² across two levels. 

It will be designed to accommodate 250 students from grades one to seven, with provisions for future expansion if needed.  

Physical construction is expected to begin on the site after the mid-year period, aiming for completion by Christmas 2025. 

This contract will be included in Veidekke’s order book for the second quarter of this year. 

This month, Veidekke also secured a design-build contract to construct Kitron’s new production facility at Longum Park in Arendal, Norway.
