Veidekke has emerged as the winner in the competitive bid for the initial phase of construction of an emergency building and municipal health centre in Kristiansand, Norway.

This project is designed to serve the healthcare needs of the Agder region.

Veidekke Bygg Agder district manager Atle Monan said: “We appreciate the confidence shown in us and are looking forward to getting started immediately.

“Veidekke has completed several major hospital projects in recent years and is looking forward to using our expertise in this project too.”

The total budget for the new emergency building and municipal health centre is set at Nkr2.26bn ($199m), with construction costs estimated at approximately Nkr1.5bn.

Kristiansand Municipality, Sørlandet Hospital, Sykehusbygg, and Veidekke will collaborate closely to refine the construction project.

Their objective is to finalise a definitive construction agreement by the end of 2025.

Sykehusbygg managing director Terje Bygland Nikolaisen said: “Veidekke has won the competition by emphasising the best expertise in project development, among other things, and we have high expectations towards the development of good solutions.

“In the pre-project [stage] we will prove that we can meet the needs of the functions that have been determined within the financial framework that has been set. Veidekke will now engage an architect, consultants and key subcontractors, and we are thus on track for occupation at the end of 2028.”

This month, Veidekke secured a design-and-build contract with Telge Fastigheter to construct a new nursing care facility in Södertälje’s Lina district, Sweden.

The facility will include approximately 80 apartments, specifically designed to meet the needs of the older population in Lina.

The project, valued at Skr256.5m, is set for completion by mid-2027.
