The construction of the new Aseptic Pharmacy and Sterile Service Department (SSD) at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) has celebrated a topping-out milestone.

This indicates that the project has reached its highest structural point.

The facility is anticipated to open in early 2025 and represents the latest collaboration between Willmott Dixon and Prime.

Located on plot two of the Adanac Health and Innovation Campus in Southampton, the multiuse facility is backed by investment from Macquarie Group.

Alongside the Aseptic Pharmacy and SSD, it will feature additional space for future expansion.

The Aseptic Pharmacy will serve as a Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency-licensed pharmacy, manufacturing drugs for UHS, an acute teaching trust, and other National Health Service providers in the region.

Meanwhile, the Sterile Services Department will be responsible for sterilising surgical tools and equipment for UHS, with services provided by the current provider, IHSS, at the new site.

These developments are part of a series of initiatives aimed at creating more space for the trust to grow.

Previous enhancements to the hospital site included a new entrance, retail area, and staff parking.

The creation of the Adanac Health and Innovation Campus was a joint effort between the partners, located near the hospital with easy motorway access.

Willmott Dixon South managing director Richard Poulter said: “We are thrilled to celebrate this significant milestone in the construction of the new Aseptic Pharmacy and Sterile Service Department at the Adanac Health and Innovation Campus.

“This state-of-the-art facility is a testament to our commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and supporting the vital work of University Hospital Southampton.”

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Willmott Dixon securing a contract for a new £20m ($25.41m) mental health unit in Bristol earlier this month.
