The five-storey structure will allow Westchester Medical Center to improve inpatient comfort and privacy.

October 10 2023

North America-based Turner Construction Company has been awarded a contract to construct a patient care tower at Westchester Medical Center's Valhalla, New York-based campus in the US.

The value of this contract is approximately $186m.

The project will provide 128 new hospital beds to serve patients requiring trauma, cardiology, neurosciences, and general surgery treatment.

The additional beds are expected to boost patient care capacity, with medical residents and students also set to benefit from improved training.

Construction works on this 162,000ft² facility are set to commence at the end of 2023, with the hospital expected to open in January 2026.

The project is anticipated to benefit the local economy through the creation of 770 construction jobs, as well as 127 additional full-time jobs post-completion.

The five-storey structure will include private inpatient rooms and intensive care units that will feature windows to allow for natural light in order to promote patient well-being.

Turner vice-president and general manager Chris Zegler said: “Turner is thrilled to collaborate with Westchester Medical Center to benefit the local community.

“We are eager to work with members of the community and look forward to achieving goals for utilisation of diverse and local businesses on construction of this patient care tower. This project will tremendously improve patient experience, and we look forward to bringing this state-of-the-art facility to life.”
