UK-based construction company Turner & Townsend has been appointed as the project management service provider for the new maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) facility in Beijing, China.
Beijing Aero Engine Services Company (BAESL) is a 50/50 joint venture MRO facility formed by Rolls-Royce and Chinese flag carrier Air China. This is set to be Turner & Townsend’s third MRO project for Rolls-Royce worldwide.
This new facility will occupy more than 80,000m² and house up to 800 staff members who will provide MRO services for the Rolls-Royce Trent 700, Trent XWB-84, and Trent 1000 aircraft engine models.
Turner & Townsend's range of specialist professional services for BAESL will comprise design management, procurement assistance, construction management, and cost and commercial management, among others.
Construction is already underway on a greenfield location close to Beijing International Airport within the Beijing Capital International Airport Economic Zone.
The facility is expected to become operational by 2026.
Turner & Townsend Asia managing director Brian Shuptrine said: “Our time-tested project management experience in delivering MRO facilities for Rolls-Royce worldwide will ensure that we anticipate, plan and derive maximum cost and operational efficiency throughout the construction of this Beijing Aero Engine Services Company Limited project, and support BAESL’s ambitions to become a state-of-the-art MRO company.”
The facility is expected to contribute to the continuous growth of Rolls-Royce’s global care network and environmental goals by minimising overseas engine transportation for MRO operations.
