Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical has announced the ground-breaking of a new manufacturing facility in Costa Rica.

Expected to be operational by 2025, the 10,000m² facility will be located in the Evolution Free Zone Industrial Park in the town of Grecia, Alajuela Province.

It will mark the company’s first facility in Central America. The development follows the announcement of the creation of a new division, Trelleborg Medical Solutions, earlier this month.

The move aligns with the company's strategic objective to streamline customer value chains and reduce costs.

The facility is also intended to enhance supply chain resilience and support nearshoring for key customers.

The site will offer liquid silicone rubber moulding, thermoplastic production, dipping, and assembly, catering to the needs of the healthcare and medical sectors.

Designed to meet the standards of medical device manufacturing, the facility will include cleanroom production.

Trelleborg president Linda Muroski said: “We want to provide customers with finished medical devices, components and assemblies in one location.

"By producing the components at a single site and moving them to assembly under one roof, we reduce freight costs and management of multiple vendors for our customers, saving them money so they can be more competitive and profitable.

“This approach also allows customers to focus on what they do best - creating life-changing innovations.”

The facility's location aligns with Trelleborg's sustainability vision for achieving net-zero emissions by 2035.

The location also offers direct access to major motorways, ports, and proximity to Juan Santamaria International Airport.
