The Government of Canada has announced domestic infrastructure improvements for three streets in the community of Beamsville, Lincoln, Ontario. 

Funded via the federal government's Active Transportation Fund, the initiative has secured a combined investment of more than C$2.9m ($2.13m). 

Lincoln mayor Sandra Easton said: “Many thanks to the Government of Canada for recognising and rewarding communities like ours that prioritise investments in transportation improvements, active transportation and sustainability.  

“These projects will accommodate growth in our community while implementing measures that will keep Lincoln safe and beautiful for residents and visitors.” 

Construction on Aberdeen Road is expected to create a safer and more accessible experience for pedestrians and cyclists.  

The construction will include the installation of new streetlights and a paved shoulder for outdoor activities and active lifestyles.  

The introduction of additional speed bumps is intended to decrease traffic speed, thereby boosting safety for pedestrians and cyclists.  

Additionally, the addition of greenery and tree plantings is expected to contribute to mitigating heat island effects. 

Similarly, Lincoln Avenue will undergo enhancements such as new streetlights, traffic-calming measures, dedicated cycling lanes, sidewalks, and landscaping.  

The addition of kerbs is aimed at delineating the street from the boulevard, aiding in stormwater management.  

These improvements are expected to not only encourage pedestrian use but also extend the lifespan of Lincoln Avenue. 

Greenlane is also on the list for upgrades to support access to the proposed transit station and accommodate the area's anticipated growth. 

The investment will facilitate the construction of a new crosswalk, streetlights, kerbs, and landscaping.  

In addition, a new multiuse path along Greenlane is anticipated to offer pedestrians and cyclists safe routes to navigate and connect within the community.
