The Province of British Columbia (BC) in Canada has selected three teams to deliver the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project, following competitive procurement processes.

The Surrey Langley SkyTrain extension is a 16km project connecting King George Station in Surrey to downtown Langley.

SkyLink Guideway Partners, comprising Dragados Canada, Ledcor Investments, and Ledcor Mining will be responsible for the design, build, and finance of the elevated guideway, including roadworks, utilities, and active transportation elements.

Transit Integrators BC, formed by AtkinsRéalis Major Projects, AtkinsRéalis Canada, and Western Pacific Enterprises, will design and build the systems and trackwork.

South Fraser Station Partners, which includes Aecon Constructors, Acciona Infrastructure Canada, and Pomerleau BC will construct the eight new stations.

Aecon, with a 33.3% stake, has announced reaching a financial close for the contract, valued at C$928m ($675.95m).

Its share was added to its construction segment backlog in the second quarter of 2024.

Aecon Group president and CEO Jean-Louis Servranckx said: “We look forward to working with the Province of BC and our partners to deliver this critical transit extension - improving mobility for one of the fastest growing areas in Metro Vancouver.

“The stations contract is a significant component of the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project and we are proud to bring our expertise in delivering complex transit projects to build sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of future generations.”

Upon completion, the Surrey Langley SkyTrain extension is expected to offer a 22-minute journey from Langley City to King George Station and a 65-minute trip to downtown Vancouver.

The extension is anticipated to improve transportation, as well as increase access to opportunities and housing, support healthy communities, economic development, and the environment.
