STRABAG has been awarded a contract valued at approximately €91m ($117.7m) by WBV-GPA for a new mixed-use project in Vienna's Döbling district, Austria.

The development, scheduled for completion in 2027, will offer a blend of residential, commercial, and public amenities across a usable floor space of roughly 40,000m².

The project at Muthgasse 50 is set to include 309 residential units, with 238 subsidised rental apartments and 71 privately financed apartments.

The multifunctional complex will also house a student residence with 258 units, a preschool, a sports hall, and office and commercial spaces totalling approximately 5,500m².

The complex will provide 270 parking spaces and boast a prime location near the U4 Heiligenstadt station, ensuring strong public transport links.

Sustainability is a key feature of the development, with a photovoltaic system and 70 geothermal probes, each 150m deep, to be installed alongside wells for groundwater use.

These features, along with thermal component activation for heating and cooling, aim to provide a sustainable energy supply.

The project will also support electric vehicles (EVs) with planned charging infrastructure.

STRABAG will utilise the latest construction technology, including prefabricated components from its subsidiary Mischek Systembau, to expedite the construction process.

STRABAG, a European technology group for construction services, employs around 86,000 people and generates an annual output volume of approximately €19bn.

The company secured a contract in September this year for a pilot project in Austria, employing a hydrogen-powered wheel loader, which could potentially reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 100 tonnes per year.
