Storyliving by Disney to build new residential community in US

The development is set to encompass more than 4,000 single-family and multifamily units.

December 07 2023

Storyliving by Disney, a business venture and brand of The Walt Disney Company, has announced its plans to build a new residential community in North Carolina, US.

Named Asteria, the project is in its planning stages alongside Walt Disney Imagineering and real estate developer DMB Development.

Planned to be built on 1,500 acres of land in Chatham County, the proposed community will include more than 4,000 units, which comprise single-family and multifamily homes, with certain housing plots allocated exclusively for people aged 55 and older.

Selected developers will construct these housing units, with sales projected to start in 2027.

Asteria will be made part of the master-planned community, Chatham Park, developed by Preston Development Company.

Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses senior vice-president and general manager Claire Bilby said: “The announcement of the Asteria community builds upon strong initial interest for our first Storyliving by Disney community in California and will expand Disney-branded communities to the East Coast.

“Our team has been working closely with Disney Imagineers to develop a unique vision for this project inspired by Walt Disney’s innate curiosity and North Carolina’s spirit of discovery.”

The community will offer a wide range of home styles and community amenities alongside acres of neighbourhood parks and walking and biking trails.

Asteria is the second Storyliving by Disney community proposed in the US, following the Cotino community, which is now under construction in Rancho Mirage, California.
