Consortium Staffordshire Campus Living has engaged Willmott Dixon for the construction of a new Student Village at Staffordshire University's primary Stoke-on-Trent campus in the UK.

The consortium includes Hochtief PPP Solutions UK and Ireland, Willmott Dixon, Plenary, Pinnacle Group, and Staffordshire University.

The project aims to enhance the residential facilities for the site's students through this development.

Willmott Dixon's experience with university projects such as the award-winning Town House at Kingston University positions the contractor to contribute significantly to the sustainable construction goals of the village.

With planning permission secured in March this year, Willmott Dixon is poised to commence work on the project shortly, targeting completion by 2026.

The design team for the village comprises Corstorphine & Wright, FIRA, and Ramboll.

The plan includes 700 new student accommodations in various configurations and the renovation of Clarice Cliff Court accommodation to significantly increase its energy efficiency.

Following the village's completion, demolition of current housing on Leek Road will allow for the creation of parkland with a projected 12% biodiversity net gain.

The Student Village will feature a net-zero carbon 'hub' for study and flexible use spaces, including a rooftop terrace.

Additionally, a new pedestrian bridge and boardwalk will integrate the new structures with the broader Leek Road site.

Willmott Dixon operations director Dan Doyle said: “We will be incorporating modern methods of construction and off-site manufacturing to ensure it is a low-carbon development.

"Combine this with renewable energy sources, building to Passivhaus design principles and structures that are directly inspired by the setting, the university will have a development with a strong character and identity - fostering a sense of place and community.

"Offering a safe, secure, and inclusive environment, students can expect a true home from home.”
