ST Engineering has officially commenced the construction of its third aircraft maintenance hangar at Pensacola International Airport, US.

The new hangar, spanning 167,000ft², will comprise two bays capable of servicing widebody aircraft.

This development is part of ST Engineering’s planned airframe maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) complex in Pensacola, which is planned to consist of four hangar facilities.

The latest hangar is expected to add 500,000 man-hours annually upon its completion in the latter half of 2026.

In addition, the MRO complex is expected to create more than 1,700 jobs.

The project is a collaborative funding effort involving ST Engineering, Triumph Gulf Coast, the City of Pensacola, Escambia County, the State of Florida, and other state and federal entities.

ST Engineering Commercial Aerospace president Jeffrey Lam said: “We continue to look to the future with the construction of our third hangar in Pensacola that will expand our airframe MRO capacity, allowing us to better meet our customers’ growing maintenance needs, drive business growth and strengthen our presence in the region.

“The new hangar also underscores our longstanding commitment to contribute to the progress of Pensacola’s aviation MRO industry and the region’s economic growth.”

ST Engineering has also formed a partnership with Florida Power & Light (FPL) to minimise the carbon footprint of its hangars.

The company's hangars in Pensacola receive renewable energy sourced from FPL’s off-site solar farm, as part of the SolarTogether programme.

Additionally, the hangars have environmentally friendly and advanced technology features.

Light harvesting skylights and integrated vertical lift machines at the hangars reduce electricity consumption and improve operational efficiency, respectively.
