Finnish developer SRV and the municipality of Kirkkonummi have signed a construction contract for the Nissniku House, a multipurpose building, in Kirkkonummi, Finland.

The agreement is valued at approximately €50m ($51.8m), with the construction order recognised in the company’s order backlog as of this month.

This venture will see SRV taking charge of project development, construction, and a 20-year period of technical maintenance and servicing.

The Nissniku House is poised to become a community hub, accommodating the Nissniku primary and secondary school for years one to nine, the local Masala library, and a youth club.

The project's construction is set to begin with demolition work in mid-2025, with a projected completion date of December 2027.

The building aims to achieve a five-star rating in the RTS Environmental Classification, which evaluates the durability, carbon footprint, and energy efficiency of structures.

Sustainability features to be incorporated into the Nissniku House include a geothermal heating system to partially supply heating and total cooling energy needs, as well as a ventilation system with a heat recovery unit.

Water-efficient fixtures and solar panels generating 30% of the property's lighting and electricity further enhance the building's environmental credentials.

Spanning approximately 9,500m², the Nissniku House's flexible design will facilitate a multitude of uses, with spaces adaptable for evening and weekend activities.

The building will serve multiple tenants such as a library, youth club, adult education centre, sports clubs, and nongovernmental organisations.

Earlier this month, SRV collaborated with the City of Helsinki on the Maunula housing project located in Oulunkylä, Helsinki, Finland.
