SRV to build National Museum of Finland’s annexe

Works on the annexe to the National Museum are scheduled to be completed in mid-2026.

Construction company SRV has reached an agreement with Senate Properties on an additional building project for the National Museum of Finland.

Senate Properties, the client and developer of the project, oversees government-owned premises and manages multiple culturally and historically significant properties.

The new building will be constructed using a spearhead alliance project model, with a projected overall expense of approximately €54m. Within this budget, SRV's portion amounts to around €48m.

The project entered its development phase in the winter of last year.

Both companies worked together during the development phase to identify optimal technical implementation solutions that align with the project's objectives.

It will involve the construction of an annexe to the National Museum, which was originally built in 1910. Most of the annexe's functions will be situated underground.

The annexe will feature a floor area of around 5,900m², with around 600m² located aboveground and the remaining space situated underground across two levels.

Works on the annexe to the National Museum are scheduled to be completed in mid-2026.

Furthermore, the project aims to reduce the new building's carbon footprint and enhance its carbon handprint.

JKMM Architects has designed the extension based on their “Atlas” proposal.

Architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen designed the National Museum's main building.
