November 14 2023

Sweden-based construction company Skanska has secured two contracts to construct a new building and renovate a hospital, respectively, in the US.

Under the contract with the Texas State University System, the company will construct a new science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) building on the San Marcos campus in Texas.

The value of this contract is approximately $100m.

This contract will be entered into Skanska’s US order bookings for the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year.

The scope of the project will see the construction of a new eight-storey, 14,500ft² building, which will accommodate the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The building will also include class laboratories, departmental offices, and research labs for a range of academic areas.

The development requires site and utility renovations and upgrades in order to accommodate the new building.

Construction work is anticipated to commence in June next year and is set for completion in May 2026.

Separately, Skanska has commenced renovation works on the Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital Tower in Paducah, Kentucky.

The company entered a contract with Bon Secours Mercy Health on this project, which is valued at $98m.

Skanska will register the contract to its US order bookings for Q4 2023.

The hospital tower will be modernised and renovated and a new central utility plant will be built in the process.

The scope of this project also includes new windows, heating and cooling systems, accessible bathroom facilities, and an extensive refurbishment of the second and seventh floors.

The 975m² central utility plant will comprise new equipment that will be utilised for converting the tower to a new hydronic system, which is expected to improve energy efficiency.

Construction work began last month and is anticipated to be completed in Q2 2026.
