Skanska, a Sweden-based construction company, has won a $59m contract with the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

The contract covers preconstruction and deconstruction services for phase one of the Science Park and Research Campus (SPARC) Kips Bay project in New York, US.

The contract will be included in Skanska's US order bookings for the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.

Under the agreement, Skanska will manage the deconstruction of existing buildings on the City University of New York (CUNY) Hunter College Brookdale campus.

The first phase of the SPARC Kips Bay project is set to transform over 55,700m² of space into educational facilities for the CUNY and New York City Public Schools bodies.

Additionally, the project will create SPARC Square, a new central public space, and an Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible pedestrian bridge over the FDR Drive.

Preconstruction work commenced in Q4 2024, with formal ground-breaking expected by the end of 2025.

Deconstruction is anticipated to be completed by Q1 2027.

Also, Skanska has invested Kč 956m ($39.2m) in the third phase of the Emil Kolben District in Prague, the Czech Republic.

This phase will consist of 134 low-energy apartments, 45% of which have already been sold.

The latest construction contract, valued at Kč 662m, will be included in the company's European order bookings for Q1 2025.

The Emil Kolben District is designed with a focus on low-impact living, featuring energy efficiency, sustainable technologies, and city centre accessibility to minimise car travel. The project adheres to the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology Very Good level.

Construction is scheduled to start this month, with completion expected by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Upon completion of all five phases, the Emil Kolben District will offer a total of 1,069 residential units over an area of 51,000m².
