Construction company Skanska has announced securing a contract with Nokian Vesi for the development of a new wastewater treatment facility in Nokia, Finland.  

The contract, valued at €35m ($36.23m), will be recorded in the company's Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024.  

The project is expected to enhance the city's infrastructure and accommodate its growth. 

The scope of the project encompasses the construction of four buildings, including a main process plant, a monitoring building, a garage and repair building, and an equalization pumping station.  

With an approximate area of 12,000m², the new facility is designed to cater to the increasing demands of Nokia's expanding population. 

The treatment plant will employ advanced mechanical, biological, and chemical purification processes.  

These modern technologies are expected to remove nitrogen and other pollutants more effectively than previous methods.  

Commencement of construction is scheduled for Q4 2024, with an anticipated completion date in Q1 2027.  

Skanska has been active internationally with recent signings of significant contracts.  

Last month, Skanska secured construction and renovation projects in Norway and Texas, US, totalling over $106m.  

The Norwegian contract with Sogn og Fjordane Energi for Nkr434m involves the construction of the Øksenelvane power plant while the US contract involves renovations to Collin College’s Plano campus. 

Additionally, Skanska has committed €76m to the second phase of the H₂Offices project in Budapest, Hungary.  

This investment is claimed to indicate Skanska's commitment to sustainable office development within Budapest's Váci Office Corridor.
