Upasana Mukherjee June 26 2024

Skanska has secured a contract with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to undertake the deconstruction of the MARTA Five Points Station canopy in Atlanta, Georgia, US.

Valued at $49m, this contract will be reflected in the company's second-quarter (Q2) earnings for 2024.

The scope of work includes the removal of the current prestressed concrete canopy and the demolition of the plaza area to accommodate a new mass timber canopy.

The canopy will be designed with an open-concept layout and updated pedestrian entrances.

Scheduled to commence next month, the deconstruction process is expected to conclude by 2026.

Additionally, Skanska, in partnership with Vacse, is developing a courthouse facility in Växjö, Sweden.

The overall investment, encompassing a construction contract valued at Skr350m ($33.29m), is expected to total approximately Skr430m.

It will be constructed by Skanska Sweden, with construction set to begin immediately following the acquisition of necessary building permits.

The courthouse will span five storeys and encompass a total gross area exceeding 10,500m².

It will serve as the headquarters for the District Court, Administrative Court, and Land and Environmental Court.

The building aims to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method Outstanding and Energy Class A certification.

This project has been included in the company's order intake for Q2 2024.

Skanska is divesting the courthouse, where the Swedish Courts Administration has secured tenancy, for approximately Skr490m.

The ownership transfer and payment will be aligned with the completion of the building, which is expected in Q4 2026.

These developments come after Skanska received a contract for the initial phase of construction of the Lokomotion Technology Centre in Tampere, Finland, this month.
