Skanska has secured a contract from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to rebuild the Lindsay C. Warren Bridge in Columbia, North Carolina, US.

The contract, valued at $450m, will be included in the company's US order bookings for the first quarter of this year.

The new high-rise, fixed-span bridge will be built to the north of the existing 4.5km bridge, providing a vital link for the eastern counties of North Carolina.

Designed to facilitate the uninterrupted flow of both marine and vehicular traffic, the bridge will include two travel lanes, breakdown lanes on either side, ample clearance over the navigation channel, and safety railings, thereby eliminating mechanical delays and disruptions for travellers.

Construction work is scheduled to start this month, with an expected completion date in April 2030.

Skanska has a workforce of approximately 27,000 and operates in select markets across Europe, the Nordics, and the US.

Prior to this award, the company secured another US contract from the Delaware River Port Authority for the third phase of the Commodore Barry Bridge Painting and Rehabilitation project.

This project includes the rehabilitation and painting of the bridge's steel barriers, cantilever truss, and overhead gantries, as well as strengthening truss members and repairing various bridge components.

Last month, Skanska signed a contract with the Tennessee Department of General Services for the renovation of the Legislative Plaza in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

The renovation encompasses a comprehensive overhaul of office spaces, reworking the War Memorial Plaza, and upgrading the Motlow Tunnel.
