The programme management and consulting group within Skanska USA Building has been chosen by the City of St. Petersburg to act as the owner’s representative for the redevelopment of the Historic Gas Plant property in Florida, US.

This $6.5bn project includes the construction of a new Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays team.

The redevelopment plan encompasses an 86-acre site, aiming to create eight million square feet of new space.

It will introduce affordable housing, hotels, office and retail spaces, as well as a new location for the Woodson African American Museum of Florida.

Skanska USA Building, in the capacity of the city’s owner’s representative, will oversee a range of project management services.

These include design reviews, project accounting, and management of the redevelopment's comprehensive milestone schedule.

It will also assist with permitting, provide on-site quality assurance, ensure compliance with development agreements, and maintain communication with stakeholders.

Skanska Integrated Solutions senior vice-president and regional executive Curtis Elswick noted: "We are delighted to be part of the Historic Gas Plant Redevelopment, one of the largest and most important undertakings in the city’s history.

"As a trusted advisor and advocate to the City of St. Petersburg, we will utilise our full range of management and consultant services to ensure the successful delivery of this project that will provide significant and lasting benefits to the Tampa/St. Petersburg metro area. And we can’t wait to get started.”

City of St. Petersburg development administrator James Corbett added: "Skanska’s expertise in multiple project types combined with their extensive experience across Tampa Bay, especially St. Petersburg, makes them a valuable member of the collaborative required to turn this vision into a reality."
