Skanska has secured a contract from the Delaware River Port Authority for the third-phase Painting and Rehabilitation project of the Commodore Barry Bridge, located in Chester, Pennsylvania, and Bridgeport, New Jersey, US.

Valued at $220m, the contract will be recorded in the company's US order bookings for the first quarter of this year.

The project entails the rehabilitation and painting of the bridge, which includes blast cleaning and repainting of the steel barriers, cantilever truss, as well as overhead gantries.

Strengthening of the truss members will also be undertaken, along with repairs to various components of the bridge.

Furthermore, a protective coating will be applied, along with the replacement of 4,300 linear metres of electrical conduit and wiring.

The existing movable barrier and machinery that adjusts the number of lanes in each direction will also be upgraded.

Construction commenced last month, with an anticipated completion date set for February 2028.

In another US-based development, Skanska has signed a $91m contract with the Texas A&M University System to construct a new Meat Science and Technology Center.

This facility, to be located in College Station, Texas, will be a 7,000m² building. It aims to support research and educational agency AgriLife, within the Texas A&M University System, in advancing food safety along with nutritional quality research in meat science.

The new centre will feature laboratories, an auditorium, classrooms for training, seminar spaces, and offices for graduate students and faculty.

Construction is set to begin in December 2025, with completion expected by January 2028.

Skanska recently secured a contract from the municipal company Kreativa Hus Skövde to develop a new office building and an attached parking garage in Skövde, Sweden.
