Skanska wins additional award for A428 road development in UK

Works encompass the design and construction of a dual carriageway from the Black Cat roundabout to the Caxton Gibbet roundabout.

Construction company Skanska has secured additional funding under its current contract with National Highways for the development of a new 16km dual carriageway on the A428 route in the East of England, UK.

This new award carries a value of approximately Skr320m. The award is mainly associated with the increase in expenditures due to a legal challenge to the scheme's development.

Skanska will enter the contract in its Europe order bookings for the fourth quarter of this year.

The overall scope of the development includes the design and construction of a new dual carriageway, which stretches from the Black Cat roundabout in Bedfordshire to the Caxton Gibbet roundabout in Cambridgeshire.

Other upgrades include improvements of several junctions such as the construction of a new three-tier junction at the Black Cat roundabout that will provide unrestricted traffic onto the A1 and the new road.

The plan will provide significant advantages by reducing delays and improving capacity throughout the route.

It will also support longer-term economic growth in the wider Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge region, which the national government has highlighted as a key priority.

With the issuance of a notice to proceed by National Highways, Skanska can commence primary works on the project before the end of this year.

The development is expected to be completed in 2027.
