Morgan Sindall's North West team has initiated enabling works for the regeneration of Accrington Town Square in the UK.

The project's funding was secured via a £20m ($25.41m) bid to the national Levelling Up Fund, with additional contributions from Lancashire Borough Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The initiative aims to revitalise historic sites within the town, including the Market Hall, Burtons Chambers, and Market Chambers.

A ground-breaking event was held that was attended by officials and executives from Morgan Sindall, AEW Architects, Hyndburn Borough Council (HBC), and Hive Projects.

HBC's regeneration strategy will see the Market Hall converted into a food and drink hub while Burtons Chambers will be repurposed as a co-working space.

Meanwhile, Market Chambers will be restored for future use as a cultural and heritage site.

Sindall will implement its Intelligent Solutions approach to preserve original materials and create modern facilities that reduce operational carbon emissions throughout the scheme's lifecycle.

The project is being pushed forward through the SCAPE Construction framework, which is intended to promote collaboration and efficiency, ensuring timely and cost-effective construction processes.

Sindall will also engage with local suppliers and workforce to execute the project.

Sindall North managing director Simon Arnott said: “As a contractor committed to sustainability and enhancing communities, we’re glad to get out on site, as well as continuing to develop our relationships with Hyndburn Town Council and its constituents to deliver high-quality facilities fit to serve its community for years to come.”

With the transformation underway, Accrington Market traders have relocated to 'Market on the Square', a provisional setup at the town's Town Square.

This temporary market will be inaugurated later this month with a community event.

This month, Sindall also began the refurbishment of the Watford Colosseum in Watford, Hertfordshire, UK.

Watford Borough Council selected Sindall’s Northern Home Counties segment for the extensive refurbishment project.
