Siemens and others break ground on new warehouse in Goole

The warehouse will be built in conjunction with another plant in Kettering.

November 14 2023

Siemens Mobility, in collaboration with real estate company Trebor Developments and GMI Construction Group, has broken ground on a new regional materials and logistics warehouse project in Goole, UK.

The development is part of the latest expansion project at the Goole Rail Village.

The 94,841ft² warehouse is scheduled to open in mid-2024.

The Goole facility, together with a plant in Kettering, East Midlands, will store supplies for Siemens Mobility’s train production and maintenance facilities around the UK.

This latest addition to Goole Rail Village’s services will enable the company to cater to consumer demands more easily and efficiently.

Establishing these two specialised warehouses is expected to minimise travel miles for train parts required at depots, thereby reducing carbon footprint and supporting GMI's objective of decarbonising its operations by 2030.

Siemens Mobility joint CEO Sambit Banerjee said: “Bringing together our warehouse capabilities in one location serving our depots in the north, and another at Kettering for the south, allows us to focus on ensuring our depots can deliver the best service for the trains' maintenance, keeping availability and reliability at the forefront of what we do. This is another way we are actively focused on transforming the everyday for our customers and passengers.”

The Goole rail manufacturing facility is in the last stages of fitting out before the assembly of new Piccadilly line trains for Transport for London begins in March 2024.
