Siemens Mobility has revealed its plans to invest €115m ($124.79m) to create a rail infrastructure manufacturing, digital engineering, and research and development (R&D) centre in Chippenham, England, UK.

The company stated that this investment underscores its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the increasing demand for rail infrastructure both domestically and globally.

Siemens Mobility managing director and CFO Karl Blaim said: “This new €115m investment underscores our unwavering commitment to Chippenham and the UK.

"It builds upon our significant investments in a state-of-the-art Train Manufacturing Facility and Rail Village in Goole, further solidifying our long-term commitment to the advancement of the UK's rail industry.”

The new facility, which is expected to be operational by 2026, will replace the current factory at the site.

Siemens Mobility's current Chippenham factory was established by contractor Evans O’Donnell in 1897.

The factory included advancements such as digital signalling technology for major London Underground lines, computer-based interlockings for the East Coast Digital Programme, and more.

In November last year, the company, in partnership with Trebor Developments and GMI Construction Group, broke ground on a regional materials and logistics warehouse project in Goole, UK.

This 94,841ft² warehouse is scheduled to open in mid-2024.
