The construction of the South Australian Sports Institute’s (SASI) new advanced facility in Mile End has reached the halfway mark.

The estimated value of this facility is A$90m ($60.90m).

With construction achieving the halfway milestone, SASI is preparing to open the facility in August next year. Work on the building started in March this year.

Australia-based construction company Hansen Yuncken has concluded the in-ground services, piling works, and concrete pours for all three floors.

The remaining works that need to be completed by next year involve installing structural steel, curtain walls, cladding facade, and roofing, as well as interior fit-out finishing and exterior and parking area development.

SA's Malinauskas Government has contributed A$68m to the Mile End development, which will serve as a sport, research, and education centre for athletes and students.

This project has also received an additional A$20m in capital costs from its project partner UniSA, which will see the construction of the UniSA Sports Science Hub on the second floor of the property, including sports science laboratories.

Domestic architect COX Architecture designed the facility.

The facility will include amenities such as a strength and conditioning gym equipped with a 60m, three-lane synthetic turf testing area and an anti-gravity treadmill; as well as athlete testing in an environmental chamber, indoor sprung timber, half-court movement studio, and more.

The Australian Centre for Sports Aerodynamics, SA Athletics Stadium, and Netball SA Stadium are also located at Mile End.
