General contractor Thompson Builders has completed the San Joaquin Public Health Services Building, a public health development in California, US.

The new facility, which comprises 24,500ft² of office space and 5,800ft² of laboratory facilities, is designed to address the community's health needs via improved service and operational efficiency.

The project was initiated during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The site continued to provide critical public health testing services for San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties throughout its construction.

In addition to upgrading facilities, the $20.6m project involved site work such as demolishing the previous facility to make way for new parking areas.

The modern replacement project focused on optimising space and resources by reducing the usable assignable square footage and occupant load.

The 2,500ft² bioswale adjacent to the car park is designed to manage stormwater runoff, filter pollutants, and aid in groundwater recharge.

Siegfried provided civil and structural engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture for the development. It also supported the project's primary architect, Dreyfuss + Blackford, thereby decreasing its project management and design time.

The completion follows after Thompson Builders completed phase two of the Cesar Chavez Ravenswood Middle School project in East Palo Alto, US, earlier this month.

Last September, the company broke ground on the Merritt College Horticulture Complex in the country.
