Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the opening of two new domestic bridges at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1 on Al Khail Road.

The completed bridges span a total of 1,350m and are designed to accommodate approximately 8,000 vehicles per hour in the direction of Jebel Ali.

The first of the newly opened bridges at Zaa’beel connects Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street to Al Khail Road.

This three-lane bridge measures 700m in length and can handle 4,800 vehicles per hour.

The second bridge, located at Al Quoz 1, connects Al Meydan Street to Al Khail Road and extends 650m with a two-lane configuration, supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour.

The RTA also announced that the Al Khail Road Development Project is now 80% complete.

RTA executive director board chair and director general Mattar Al Tayer stated that the Al Khail Road project involves the construction of 3,300m-long bridges.

It also includes the widening of lanes over a stretch of 6,820m.

The improvements are being implemented across seven sites, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

It aims to reduce travel time by 30%, increase intersection and bridge capacity by 19,600 vehicles per hour, resolve traffic overlaps, and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Al Tayer said: "Our goal is to accommodate the needs arising from urban development and population growth and to improve traffic flow, which is guided by the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, deputy prime minister, minister of defence."

At Al Jaddaf, a new lane is being added to facilitate traffic towards Deira.

The Meydan area will see the construction of a 610m-long two-lane bridge while similar bridges are being constructed at Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

In May last year, the RTA completed the widening works at Al Jaddaf and Business Bay.

Furthermore, the RTA recently completed 20 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders, with a total of 40 planned across the emirate.
