The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has awarded a contract for the Al Qudra Road intersections development project.

The project, valued at Dh798m ($217.2m), aims to optimise traffic flow and mobility for residents and visitors, as well as support Dubai's urban development and population growth.

This development extends from Al Qudra Road’s intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and reaches Emirates Road.

It includes the construction of several interchanges, bridges totalling 2,700m, and the expansion of the existing road by 11.6km.

The project is expected to increase the street's capacity, reducing travel time from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes, and will benefit an estimated population of 400,000.

RTA executive director board chair and director general Mattar Al Tayer said: “The Al Qudra Street Development Project is one of the major projects undertaken by RTA to develop and enhance vertical roads (East-West).

“The project contributes to increasing the capacity and efficiency of traffic movement at strategic intersections, reducing traffic congestion, increasing the speed of movement between different areas, and providing smooth traffic flow on Al Qudra Road towards Emirates Road, reaching Al Qudra City and vice versa.”

Additionally, the intersection of Al Qudra Street with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be upgraded by constructing a 700m bridge with seven lanes in both directions, along with auxiliary lanes for side ramps.

A 500m bridge will also be built to aid traffic from Al Qudra Road to Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Jebel Ali, and a 900m bridge for traffic heading towards Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport.

Furthermore, Al Qudra Road will be extended from the intersection with Emirates Road to the roundabout, serving key development areas such as Town Square, Meera, and DAMAC Hills 2.

Subsequently, a new road will be constructed in the southern part of the developers' area, extending 4.8km to connect with Emirates Road, and the number of lanes on both sides of Emirates Road will be expanded over the stretch.

Recently, RTA entered into a preliminary agreement with The Boring Company to construct the Dubai Loop, a high-speed underground transport system.
