Tourism destination developer Red Sea Global (RSG) has been commissioned to refurbish and modernise Al Wajh Airport (EJH) in Saudi Arabia.

The project is said to be RSG's first in its expanded portfolio along the Red Sea coast of the country.

The upgrade works will be carried out to align the airport with modern international standards.

RSG will develop a new international terminal in addition to updating the existing terminal and its associated infrastructure. The designs for the development are expected to be published 'soon'.

The project will allow EJH to provide more direct flights, thereby increasing connectivity and job prospects for local people.

EJH will become a gateway for the upcoming Amaala destination, which is also being built by RSG and will also serve as a new base of operations for Fly Red Sea, the first seaplane company in Saudi Arabia.

RSG Group CEO John Pagano said: “Today I can reveal the first of those [expanded portfolio] projects is to refurbish Al Wajh Airport, making it a modern airport for the people of Tabuk.

“It’s an honour to be the developer of choice for this important work, ensuring Al Wajh is ready and equipped to support the needs of the growing local community.”

RSG is also building a private airport near the Red Sea and Amaala destinations.

With an expected completion date of 2030, the Red Sea destination is set to include 50 resorts featuring approximately 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential buildings spread across 22 islands and six inland areas.
