The Government of British Columbia is moving ahead with its plan to build a Clinical Support and Research Centre (CSRC) at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada.

The state government has approved the business plan and funding for the construction of the centre.

The centre will be situated near 1002 Station St (next to the hospital) and will cover an area of approximately 34,400m².

It will be connected to the under-construction St. Paul's Hospital on Jim Pattison Medical Campus through a skybridge.

The completed centre is expected to house research facilities, programmes, and disciplines operated by Providence Health Care (PHC) and Providence Research.

PHC and Providence Research oversee research centres at St. Paul's Hospital and nearby locations.

The CSRC will provide the infrastructure for new technology, including 3D bioprinting, corporate services, research data analysis, and a childcare centre with 49 spaces.

The project will cost a total of $638.3m, which will be jointly funded by the province, St. Paul's Foundation, PHC, and the ChildCare BC New Spaces Program.

BC Premier David Eby said: “This new research centre will help define the future of medicine.

"BC is becoming a global hub for life sciences and today’s announcement will help us to continue to attract the best scientists and researchers to our province, as well as doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.”

The government noted that the construction of the new centre aligns with the Life Sciences and Biomanufacturing Strategy of the overarching StrongerBC Economic Plan.
