The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) has unveiled its plans for a campus expansion. 

The plan coincides with RCSI Bahrain’s 20th anniversary in Bahrain.  

The university has entered into an agreement with Nass for the construction of the $45m expansion.  

The development is set to address the domestic demand for medical education and research infrastructure. 

The expansion includes the construction of a new academic building offering 7,912m² of usable space.

It will feature teaching facilities, research laboratories, a library, various social spaces, and an event hall. 

RCSI Bahrain professor and president Sameer Otoom said: “A living reflection of RCSI’s dedication to sustainability and commitment to providing an ideal environment for our faculty and students to thrive and developing new programmes, our planned campus expansion aligns with Bahrain’s vision to cement itself as a leading regional hub for healthcare and education, benefiting from a highly skilled workforce, welcoming and tolerant community, and exceptional lifestyle.” 

RCSI Bahrain's campus expansion will adopt low-carbon transportation options, including bicycle racks and electric vehicle charging stations.  

The design also integrates energy-efficient features such as solar panels, LED lighting, and water conservation systems. 

The project places an emphasis on reducing heat through the use of native plants and the creation of green spaces. 

The new academic building is expected to contribute $102m to the country's economy within four years. 

Otoom stated that the university currently has a network of more than 3,000 alumni and healthcare professionals from 56 nationalities comprising 459 doctors and 1,321 nurses.
