Prologis UK has appointed VolkerFitzpatrick to construct five new distribution units at its industrial logistics park in Hemel Hempstead, England, UK.

This marks the second collaboration between the two companies at Prologis Park Hemel Hempstead, located within Maylands Business Park.

Scheduled to run from March 2024 to the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, site construction has already begun with enabling works.

The project will see the park grow by more than 280,000ft² in space.

Upon completion, the park will feature units ranging from 19,000ft² to 75,000ft².

Designed with a focus on sustainability and customer needs, the new units will offer terraces, outdoor amenity areas, and accessible walking and cycling routes for local communities.

Each distribution unit will have a rooftop solar array and will aim for Energy Performance Certificate A+ and Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method Outstanding ratings, adhering to the UK Green Building Council's zero carbon in construction framework.

Prologis UK Development Management VP Martin Cooper said: “It’s great to be getting this latest construction project underway at Hemel Hempstead with our trusted partner VolkerFitzpatrick.

“In the first instance, our focus is on enabling earthworks, drainage and site access construction. I’m looking forward to seeing our designs come to fruition throughout 2024 on this gateway site for the town.”

VolkerFitzpatrick Building division managing director Stuart Deverill added: “We have been working with Prologis for many years and our strong, collaborative approach has enabled us to deliver innovative and sustainable projects whilst setting new standards for workplace well-being.”

The latest project comes after VolkerFitzpatrick was selected to design and construct the new Sturry Link Road project in Canterbury, Kent, last month.

Appointed by Kent County Council, the £34m ($42.36m) project has been financed through the UK government’s Local Growth Fund.
