Persimmon unveils plans for site at Langford Bridge

The site will comprise zero-carbon houses powered via ground-source heat pumps.

December 11 2023

Developer Persimmon Homes South West has revealed its plans for a new site at Langford Bridge, near Newton Abbot, England, UK.

The house builder will deliver 40 new sustainable houses for residents and transfer eight new homes to a social housing provider for affordable rent and shared ownership for residents as part of its larger contribution to the community.

Subject to receiving planning permission for the first phase, the developer’s ‘local homes guarantee’ will provide local residents first refusal on a significant number of residences at the site for the first eight weeks of its launch.

Persimmon also filed a carbon reduction plan alongside its planning application.

The no-gas site will see the development of zero-carbon houses powered by ground-source heat pumps. The site’s sustainability will be further improved with electric vehicle charging stations and secure cycle storage space.

The proposed site is expected to help Teignbridge District Council achieve its five-year housing land supply requirements.

Persimmon Homes South West managing director Dan Heathcote said: “We are delighted to unveil our plans for our proposed new site at Langford Bridge on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, including a pioneering local homes guarantee.

“We look forward to progressing with our planning application as we seek to deliver quality, sustainable homes and leave a positive lasting legacy for local people at the Langford Bridge site.”

The proposal also encompasses establishing a new bus route and offering public open space with major biodiversity benefits.
